The Jerkiest Green Lantern

But maybe he's just misunderstood?

I recently finished reading the first collected volume of Kevin Maguire and J.M. DeMatteis' Justice League International series. It's a fun read, and the art is beautiful, so please do pick it up if you haven't already. There's a really interesting group dynamic showcased in the book, but in particular, I really enjoyed Guy and Batman's relationship. Batman takes on the role of this stern, disapproving father, and Guy of the bratty, mouthy kid to hilarious results. So funny.

Anybody know how Guy became a Green Lantern anyway? Did he trip over a power battery or something?

Basically when Abin Sur's ship crashed on Earth, the ring had two candidates Hal and Guy, but went to Hal because he was closer.
End of nerd moment.

He was set to be the Green Lantern if anything ever happened to Hal. At the time, he was a lot nicer than he was in JLI. He was a Kindergarten teacher and a genuinely friendly guy. His JLI personality comes from several comas/head trauma type things and Hal being an asshole.

I actually think its kind of cool having a hot headed, kind of jerky superhero. A break from the cookie-cutter do-gooder type.

Anyhow, thanks for the 4-1-1 Jamal and Shanna!

Guy Gardner used to be a Kindergarten teacher? Now I'm picturing a Kindergarten Cop style movie with a superhero twist. Daniel Craig as Guy? Make it happen, Hollywood!
