Wednesday Comics: Green Lantern

So today, DC comics announced the semi- secret project I've been working on: DC's 'Wednesday Comics.' Huzzah! Now I can post about them! What's that? You don't know what I'm talking about? Oh sorry.

The Wednesday Comics series is going to be "a new 12-part weekly series launching this summer that will be presented in a 14” x 20” broadsheet format and will have to be unfolded and opened to be read. The "Wednesday" part of the title refers to the fact new comic books go on sale at comic book stores nationwide every Wednesday."

I'm doing the Green Lantern story for the book with Kurt Busiek. It's been a lot of fun (and work), and certainly continues to be.

Check out this interview at Newsarama with DC art director, Mark Chiarello - the mastermind behind this very exciting book.

Here's a couple more teasers -

Congrats, Joe!

Looking forward to the project! Two questions--how long does it take to do one page: pencils, inks, coloring, and how big are you working?

Wow. All the examples from this project look absolutely stellar. As stated elsewhere, I have fond memories both of Sunday funnies and the regular funnies fold-out that Dark Horse printed back when. Thanks for the tease, Joe.

Way to go Joe! Looks like 5 year old crayons at FDR wasn't enough to squash your amazing talent.

Look forward to seeing this on the shelves!

Paolo -
Alrighty. I'll but you down for six right here.... you' know if you purchase an even 12 issues, you get a free air freshener?

Wilfredo, Joel & Emiliano. Thanks!

Hey Lud!
it probably takes me about four days to do a page from pencils to inks. They're quite large. I think the scale I'm working at right now is about 16 by 22.

Jon -
TOTALLY. I can't wait to read most of these stories. Man oh man. Ryan Sook? Mike Allred? *gush* *swoon*

Thanks steph!

Rob - Yes I did design the logo. I'd gone through dozens of iterations before Mark, Kurt and I all agreed on this one.

Thanks again everybody! I'll try and update you all on my progress every couple weeks or so.

I've never posted on your blog, although I have looked at it quite a few times and enjoyed it immensely!

I have to say that I have never been a real 'geek' on Green Lantern (aside from Darwyn Cooke's New Frontier work) and I can honestly say that your take (and Busiek's) on Green Lantern from the artwork shown is looking to be what I am most excited to view from Wednesday Comics.

I'll be extra curious how they'll be collecting this though.

This is awesome!
