NYCC 14

New York Comic Con starts today! I'll be in Artist Alley all four days of the show. There I'll be sharing a table with pal Erica Henderson (of Marvel's SQUIRREL GIRL (!!)) at table G5. I took on a bunch of pre-show commissions which I'll be finishing at the show, so it's unlikely I'll take on new ones this weekend, but please don't hesitate to ask. If I do end up having extra time I'd be glad to take on an extra commission or two.

Beyond that I'll have prints and books for sale, including the original graphic novel, Black Canary and Zatanna: Bloodspell. I'll also have original art on hand to view or buy.

Here are my signing times for the show:

Thursday, 3pm- 4pm -- Marvel Booth (#1354)

Friday, 4pm-5:30 -- Marvel 75th Anniversary signing, at the 'Galleria' (on the 4th floor of the Javits)

Hope to see you there!

Here’s a look at the Avengers commission I had been teasing last week. Hope you like!
I’m back home from a great weekend at Baltimore Comic Con. Thanks so much to everyone who came by my table and for the kind folks who work at the con for having me in the first place. I really appreciate it. I’ve a bunch of commission pictures I need to sort through that I’ll be posting in the coming days and weeks.
Cheers!

Heroes Con, 2014: OVER

I'm back from a wonderful time in Charlotte this past weekend. Thanks a bunch to Shelton Drum, Rico Renzi and the Heroes crew for having me! Heroes is easily one of my favorite shows, and it continues to be amazing. Here's a look at some of the art I made over the weekend:
Magik. Pen & ink on 9x12" bristol.

This is a little Two-Face I drew for Heroes Drink and Draw event they held on Friday. Hot dogs vs.T-bone steaks. The drawing was made on a small (roughly 4x4") coaster.

'Reign of the Superwomen.' Acrylic/mixed media on 20x30" illustration board.

Finally, here's a look at the auction piece I painted on Saturday; a gender-flipped painting inspired by the 'Reign of the Supermen' arc that followed the Death of Superman comics of the early 1990's. I had a lot of fun working on it, but it took a super long time and kept me away from my table for long spells. Apologies to anyone who missed me on Saturday. I'll likely do something a bit smaller in scope next year.

Thanks to everyone who stopped by my table to say hello. It was great getting to meet new fans and creators alike, as well as see some familiar faces. Until next time...

Thanks Heroes!

Emerald City Con: This weekend!

Emerald City Comic Con is this weekend!
I’ll be there all weekend alongside Maris Wicks at table C-13. You’ll know your close when you spot the long, long lines waiting for Kelly Sue DeConnick, Matt Fraction and the Allreds :) — they’re all seated along the same aisle as us.
Excited to be returning to this awesome con and city once more. I’ll be up to my usual con activities, selling prints and taking on commissions.
Here are my rates:
Head Sketch

Black & White (pen & ink on paper) - $40 — Toned (rendered in Copic marker and/or watercolor, inks laid over top) - $80

Half Figure/Torso - B&W $100  —Toned $180

Full Figure - B&W $180  —Toned $350
—-
11x17” prints will be available for $20.00. I’ll have a variety of them on hand, but please don’t hesitate to drop me a line if you’d like me to print one out custom for you to pick up at the show.
I’ll also have these nifty little postcards with me advertising the release of my upcoming graphic novel, Black Canary & Zatanna: Bloodspell. They’re free, so swing on by my table to pick one up.
On Sunday from 12:10-1pm in ‘Hall B’ (608-609) I’ll be participating in a game show called “Challenge of the Super Friends,” hosted by comic artist Gregg Schigiel. The show is comics-themed (naturally) and will feature myself, Jay Faerber, Chris Giarusso, Brad Guigar and Maris Wicks as guests. I hereby predict my losing all of the games. Badly.
And that about does it. Hope to see you there, folks!

Miss America Chavez

A sketch from Heroes Con, 2013. Well, sort of...

This was originally going to be a commission from Heroes con, and I even got so far as completing the pencils for it. Then I remembered that the fellow who had commissioned it had left a sketch cover for me to draw it on instead. Woops! I liked the sketch though, so I went back to ink and tone it.

America is supposed to be saying "Come with me if you want to be awesome." Not sure I did the translation right.

The Man of Steel, Project: Rooftop and Heroes

So... Heroes con is THIS WEEKEND. I didn't find the time to make a blog post about it until just now, so bear with me.

I'll be at table 905 in Artist Alley, sandwiched right in between Paolo Rivera and Maris Wicks/Jim Ottaviani. Today (Saturday) will be my busiest day, as I juggle my time between commissions, painting my auction piece (come on by the live art stage to see!) and a few panels that I'm on.

Speaking of panels, at 12 noon I'll be at a panel in room 207 CD alongside Dave Johnson, Phil Noto and Francesco Francavilla to discuss 'the art of cover design'. Lightly intimidated to be on a panel with these giants. Come on by!

At 2:00 I'll be in room 203 B for a panel being held by my favorite superhero costume redesign website, Project: Rooftop. Join me, Ming Doyle, Mike Maihack, Ron Solas, Joel Carroll and Dan Govar, Dean Trippe and Vito Delsante as we discuss some new superhero redesigns that we've each doodles. Above is mine-- a sort of reinterpretation of Superman's 'New 52' costume.

If you're at the con, please come on over and say hi!

Excelsior.

Two-Caf Comics Festival

Two-Caf. No, I mean Te-Face! TECAF-FACE!
Ehem. Sorry. Above is a sketch of Two-Face* that I drew this past weekend at the Toronto Comic Arts Festival, colloquially known as TCAF.
I had a great time! Thanks to everyone who took the time to stop by, buy stuff, or just chat for a bit. Hopefully I’ll be back again next year.
Cheers!
*full disclosure — originally I drew the above image in reverse - forgetting which side of Harvey’s face was all jacked. I flipped it in the computer. I’M ONLY HUMAN.

Toronto Comic Arts Festival, 2013

This weekend is the Toronto Comic Arts Festival!
I’ll be seated alongside Maris Wicks at table 216. There I’ll have prints, minicomics and my sketchbook on hand, and will be sketching as well.
If you’re in the area, come on by!

Pre-Con Commissions for Boston Comic Con, 2013

Hey all!

Just wanted to announce that pre-con commissions are now open for Boston Comic Con!
Click on over to my online store to book one for the show.
Commissions will only be available for pick up at Boston Comic Con, 2013. All drawings will be sketched out ahead of time, but will be ‘finished’ (i.e. inked/rendered) at the show.
I’ll be taking a limited amount of these over the next few days, likely closing my list late Thursday night or early Friday morning. So don’t wait if you want one! Thanks all!
