Photobooth Fridays, No. 40

Avengers edition.

Above is one of two sketches I did when Marvel asked me to draw a 'Secret Avengers' cover for them for their 'Avengers Art Appreciation Month' starting in April. It's meant to be an homage to Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec's 'La Goulue' litho.

Here's the second:

Though Marvel had asked me specifically to do a Lautrec homage for my cover, I was very taken with this piece by Jules Cheret, 'Bal du Moulin Rouge'. I decided it was worth a sketch, but in the end Marvel decided to stick with my Lautrec homage.

Here's a side-by-side comparison of the piece from pencils to inks, to finished colors:

And of course, what's a Photobooth Friday without the obligatory, ever-embarassing reference photo?

Happy Friday, every body!
